093 = MobiFone
In Vietnam, mobile numbers beginning 093 belong to MobiFone, one of the country's big state-linked operators. The range launched in 2006 and was already 10 digits long, so it survived the 2018 numbering reform untouched — one reason the 093 range (including 0933) is seen as a prestigious, established block. Local SIM sellers often describe it in feng-shui terms, and repeating-digit numbers in the range command premium prices.
The 2018 conversion from 11 to 10 digits
Until September 2018, many Vietnamese mobiles had 11 digits with prefixes like 012x, 016x, 018x and 019x. The Ministry of Information and Communications converted them all to 10 digits with new three-digit prefixes. If you see an 11-digit Vietnamese mobile today, it is outdated — or someone copied it from an old source.
Current prefixes by operator
| Operator | Prefixes |

| Viettel | 032–039, 086, 096, 097, 098 |
| VinaPhone (VNPT) | 081–085, 088, 091, 094 |
| MobiFone | 070, 076–079, 089, 090, 093 |
| Vietnamobile | 052, 056, 058, 092 |
| Gmobile | 059, 099 |
| iTel (Indochina Telecom) | 087 |

Format: 0XX XXX XXXX locally and +84 XX XXX XXXX internationally. Vietnam also allows number portability, so the operator above is the original holder of the range.
The 0933 overlap: Vietnam, the Philippines and Taiwan
A number that starts 0933 could be a 10-digit MobiFone number in Vietnam, an 11-digit Sun (Smart group) number in the Philippines, or a 10-digit mobile in Taiwan. Length and country code settle it: count the digits and look for +84, +63 or +886. Scammers exploit this ambiguity by claiming to be “local” when they are not. Our checker shows every plausible country so you can compare it with what the caller claims.
Reporting spam and scam calls in Vietnam
Vietnam's telecom authorities run a free reporting channel. Text one of these formats to 156 (the older 5656 still works), or simply call 156:
- Spam text: S [sending number] [content]
- Spam call: V [calling number] [content]
- Suspected scam call: LD [calling number] [content]
You can also register for the national do-not-call list by texting DK DNC to 5656.
